Angels Camp is one of the many historic towns located along Highway 49 at an elevation of 1379 feet. Mark Twain based his story of the Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County on a tale he claimed he heard at the Angels Hotel. His story is commemorated with a Jumping Frog Jubilee each May at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds, just outside downtown Angels Camp. In 1997 Angels Camp joined hundreds of other communities around the country in a national campaign to promote random acts of kindness and beautification in their community. Angels Camp has a charming old downtown, a seasonable Farmer’s Market at Utica Park, and is home to Bret Harte High School, educating our teens living along the Highway 4 Corridor.
